David Bomberg

Although neglected as an artist during his lifetime, Bomberg is now recognised as one of Britain's best twentieth century painters. Richard Cork's book was the first to reproduce many of Bomberg's important paintings and drawings, and in the text charts Bomberg's complex artist career, from his early work as a student influenced by Cubism, Futurism and the coming of the machine age, to his acute and precise drawings in Palestine during the 1920s, through the development of his free and impassioned landscapes and later figurative paintings. Cork also discusses the psychological impact of WW1 on Bomberg and the bitterness the artist felt after being refused work by the War Artist's Committee during WW2.

Authors Biography

Richard Cork is an art critic. Currently he works for The Times. He was the editor of Studio International and is the author of numerous works, including a book on Vorticism, a biography of David Bomberg and a book on war art, A Bitter Truth: Art and the First World War.
